* by someone who showed up in pink and lived to tell the tale *

Right. So. It happened.
I attended the Barbie Party (The Dreamhouse Disco & Buy-a-Doll Auction this Saturday, 28 March 2026). In pink. On purpose. With my eyes open and my oatmeal bath pre-drawn and waiting for me like a lighthouse in the dark.
Let me paint you a picture: actually, the pictures paint themselves, because every single pixel of that event was drenched in the most aggressive, unapologetic, absolutely “committed” shade of pink I have ever witnessed in my years on this Grid. There was a pool. A pink pool. Palm trees, presumably also planning to turn pink given enough time. A “Buy-A-Doll Auction” sign that glittered at me personally. Floaties. A rubber duck. Pink. A giant ice cream. Also pink. Weeping cherry blossoms overhead, because even “nature” had received the memo.

I received the memo too. I dressed accordingly. It almost made me gag. It was, objectively, gorgeous.

And then, “then”, they put me in a Barbie box. A Limited Edition Barbie box. With my name on it in that iconic loopy font. “This Barbie is up for auction.” Someone actually bid. A real person, with real Lindens, decided that what their life was missing was a PG Pony training session with yours truly. I cannot think of a more perfect outcome. Honestly. That is “precisely” up my alley. We will get along famously.

The music was a delight, because it was Women’s History Month, my headphones were graced exclusively by women artists, and I am not ashamed to say that this was the part where I stopped suffering and started actually having a good time. You give me good music, and I will tolerate truly extraordinary amounts of pink.

My borrowed dance partner, Pollux, on gracious loan from his Lady, who is clearly a person of taste and generosity. He wore a pink suit. We matched. We were, if I do say so, devastatingly coordinated. The aesthetic was immaculate. My personal hive count was irrelevant.

The energy in that sim was something else entirely. Every gender, every sexuality (or none, as the case may be), every corner of the Second Life Grid, all there, all dressed up, all showing up for something bigger than a party. Because that is the thing about Relay for Life events, is it not? The theme is always fun, and the reason is always hope. All that sparkle, all that fabulousness, all those beautiful avatars dancing by a pink pool with a giant rubber duck, every bit of it is lifting people up. Beating cancer. Together.

Pink is not my color. But for this? I suffered gladly. Every last sequin of it. Where was Ken? All around me !

(Oatmeal bath was 10 out of 10. Would recommend. Would do it all again.)
